29In Carteret is to be found a church built in the 11c,and enlarged and altered in modern times,the local Hospital is in the best preserved portions of the Castle founded in the 10c. Renaud went with the 1st Crusade 1096-99 .with Robert Duke of Normandy

The Castle was given by Edward the iii to one of his most notable warriors,Sir John Chandos, in 1346 by whom it was enlarged, and the tower was built, Edward had landed on 12th July at the Cotentin peninsular to begin the Crecy Campaign .Outside the town is the abbey church of St Sauveur,fonded in 1088. |
